Brian Nacu

You recently have been promoted to Manager, congrats! Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you found yourself in Analytics?

Thank you! I graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s in Advertising. I knew coming into school that I wanted to be in advertising, but the advertising field is so huge, and I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go to. After graduating, and not being sure what to do next, I decided to take an online course in digital marketing, with a strong focus on Google Analytics, AdwordsHubspot, and various other courses. That opened my eyes to the power of analytics particularly when making business decisions, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be in this space. I was lucky enough to find an open position at Just Global, where I started in Ad Ops. The rest is history!

What do you enjoy the most about working on the analytics side of marketing?

There’s a lot, from creating dashboards to making robust reports that our clients can instantly use to make conclusions. But what truly makes work worthwhile is when I can help transform data into a story that our clients can use to help inform their business decisions. Doing so really makes us feel like an extension of their organization.

Are there any trends or exciting innovations you’re keeping your eyes on?

This year alone, we’ve brought along a lot of exciting innovations, from Google Trends, new more robust reporting dashboards, and so much more to come. What I’m particularly excited about is the ‘Executive View’ that we introduced last month. The Executive View is basically an anonymized view of media performance trends that are in-market. From this report, we can easily get benchmarks, gather hypotheses when testing, etc. There are a lot more innovations on the way so stay tuned!

Favorite meme right now:

Any Squid Game meme.

Go-to work tunes and podcasts:

‘Donda’ by Ye has been on repeat. I also listen to a lot of sports podcasts (The Ringer, The Athletic, Barstool Sports).

We continue to advance our Analytics practice here at Just Global. Can you tell us about some of the new reporting models that excite you most?

We have a very exciting roadmap that will be introduced over the next few months and into FY23. One model I’m most excited about is social listening. This will help gather sentiment over our clients and will help make our reporting more robust.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Austin just got their first pro soccer team this year and being a huge soccer fan (Go Manchester United!!), I was elated to finally have our own team. I’ve been to most home games this year and even though we suck, it’s still a great time.

Concerts are also finally back in Austin so I’ve been going to a lot of shows lately, I actually saw Miley Cyrus a couple weeks ago. I’m so glad live events are back :’)

Top three favorite TV shows:

Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Parks and Recreation.

How have you been spending your Wellness Days off? Have you picked up any new hobbies?

I’ve picked up paddleboarding. I’m lucky enough that I live 10 mins away from a lake so I’ve been spending my wellness days there most of the time. Thanks to the Queen’s Gambit, I’ve also started playing chess again.

Top three favorie movies:

Star Wars (all of it, including the prequel!), Anchorman and Shaun of the Dead
