The vibrant culture here at Just Media is fueled by the amazing people that we work with. In our Team Spotlight series, we feature a different member of the team, highlighting the individuals that contribute to our culture.
Meet Nikki Lee Anderson, Social Media Supervisor. Halloween Enthusiast. Sushi Lover. Cranberry Sauce Connoisseur.
What is your role at Just Media?
I am a Social Media Supervisor, which essentially means that I oversee the Emeryville social team and work closely with our Austin team as well. A big piece of that is helping the team grow their accounts through strategy and accurate reporting. My goal here is to consistently improve results over time and push social as a vital piece of the always-on connected experience. I strive to champion social in all its forms: organic, paid, and even social listening to inform better optimizations. The idea is to create content-focused social campaigns backed by innovation, data, and audience alignment.
What is your favorite thing about social media?
I love how it connects people. There is something to be said about staying connected to people all over the world. I believe that everyone has a story and social media is a great place to share and participate in other people’s stories—even if it’s just for a moment. I also love how there is something for everyone. No matter your interests, you can find someone to talk to and engage with across great distances.
What have you learned & how have you grown at Just Media?
I am incredibly grateful for Just Media. I have grown tremendously over the last couple of years and learned so much. I learned to fail forward and adapt to change. I tend to learn better when I’m thrown into the deep end, so I’m lucky to have had amazing mentors willing to give me a chance and guide me to new heights. I found a strong, strategic voice here simply by watching others and by testing everything. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am now without the freedom to test, learn, fail, and grow.
What does it take to be successful at Just Media?
First and foremost, you need a positive, solution-oriented mindset. When you think about each problem you face as an opportunity to grow, the possibilities are endless. I can only speak from my own experience, but I was usually the first to raise my hand whenever a new project came around, and I challenged myself to learn and do more each day. I always try to think about what I can do to benefit the company by utilizing my own passions. When you find ways to excite and motivate yourself, you’ll enjoy the work that much more. Lastly and probably most importantly, don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. I think it’s easy to get stuck in the way we do things and someone willing to stand up and break the mold will do quite well here.
What’s your favorite way to spend the weekend?
Usually, one day is reserved for binge-watching TV/movies or reading. After a long and productive work week, some solid decompression time is much needed. The other day I’ll try to get out of the house or be a bit more productive with my life. Lately, I’ve been really into playing games with friends and practicing at home yoga.
What inspires you at Just Media?
Every day, I am inspired by the people here. I am so impressed by the level of passion, dedication, and true innovation I see and that inspires me to be better every step of the way. I’m lucky to be surrounded by intelligent and hilarious people, amazing leadership, and a beautiful view of the bay. Who wouldn’t be inspired by that?
What’s your go-to lunch spot around the Emeryville office?
Recently, I’ve been really into Yuzu Ramen. It’s the perfect portion and so tasty! When it’s a bit warmer, I like bringing lunch and sitting outside in the sun.
What has been your favorite agency event?
So many great events, it’s hard to choose! My favorite has to be Just Media’s annual partner appreciation party. It’s so fun to see everyone come out and celebrate a great year.
Finally, what advice would you give to someone who is just getting their career started in digital marketing?
Don’t sit around waiting for work or opportunities, proactively seek them out—even if it’s outside of your current job scope. That’s the best way to learn and grow quickly. If you’re just getting started, I highly recommend seeking out training in all digital tactics to better understand the holistic picture and how your specific piece fits into the puzzle.
